Hello Colleagues and Partners. Learning Network West and its staff continue to work through these challenging times to provide the best service and support to our local authority, third sector and University partners in the delivery of Social Work Education.

Throughout, our staff who are at home working, have sustained and delivered a comprehensive programme of activities to fulfil the networks three core functions.

The face to face taught programme of Professional Development Award in Practice Learning has been successfully modified to be delivered on line and most recently we have started our third cohort of social work candidates since the pandemic started. We are also using Moodle an electronic platform for submissions and assessment of the award.

It has not been without it challenges and we would like to thank the Open University for their ongoing support and facilitation for the programme.

Likewise we continue to drive best practice as one of the three programmes in Scotland delivering the Mental Health Officer Award Qualification. In partnership with Strathclyde University we have resumed the programme on line and will participate this year in a full review of the award required by both Strathclyde University and the social work regulator Scottish Social Services Council.

Last and by no means least the network has been at the forefront of contingency measures to support practice learning opportunities in the west of Scotland which have and continue to be severely curtailed and challenged by Covid-19. Examples of good practice include student hubs, advanced skills modules and extended placements for final year students.

In June we extended our Board membership and currently awaiting confirmation from all partners of continued funding to 2024.

We are also extremely grateful to the Social Work Education Partnership for their support to enable the network to continue to successfully deliver our services to partners.

We look forward to ongoing work with all our partners and Learning Network staff thank you for your support, investment and friendship over these last 18 months.
